Four of our Excalibur photographers captured the snowfall that fell in mid–January all the way from Washington D.C. to Silver Spring. The area had not had any accumulating snow in approximately two years, with weather reports calculating four to five inches of snow.

Autumn Peace entered The Excalibur in the fall semester of 2023 as a writer. She is working towards a Biological Sciences degree at the Takoma Park/Silver-Spring Campus and will graduate in the Spring Semester of 2024. Hoping to increase her general writing skills in addition to how to communicate with the masses, joining The Excalibur was a natural step towards both those goals.

Shirley Nan Washington, Ed.D., a lifelong learner and Workforce Development and Continuing Education student, is a six-time graduate of Montgomery College (with honors, 4.0). She is a member of four honor societies and recipient of two academic awards from Montgomery College. She has had photographic and art pieces displayed in Student Art Exhibitions and images published in the Sligo Journal of Arts and Letters, with two of her photographic images published in the Journal’s spring edition 2024. In addition, her landscape photographic image placed second in the Excalibur’s Spring 2023 Photo Contest. She joined the Excalibur in Fall 2023 to share her love for photojournalism with the TP/SS campus community. She has self-published three books of her photography.

Diego Larin, Photo Editor
Diego Larin joined The Excalibur as a photographer in the fall of 2022. He is a current Psychology major, pre-law based. He is planning to transfer to a four-year college after completing 2 years at MC. He is exploring other forms of photography besides portrait, landscape, nature, and lifestyle. He is inclined to apply to law school after acquiring a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

Diane Carrillo, Staff Writer
Diane Carrillo is a passionate advocate and community leader, dedicated to social justice and education equity. As Co-president of the Parent-Teacher Organization at Carole Highland Elementary School, Diane has played a key role in creating an inclusive environment for students and families. Active in the MC Raptors for Immigrant Rights club and the Latino Student Union, Diane is committed to empowering her community and advocating for immigrant rights. Currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, she aims to use her education to protect vulnerable communities. A proud mother of two daughters, Diane's work is driven by a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to uplifting others.
