The Music and Community: Bad Bunny Edition event was held at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus on Oct. 9, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The program included an overview of Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, his Puerto Rican heritage, contributions to music, and a discussion of his headlining the Feb. 8, 2026 Super Bowl LX halftime show.
Criminal justice major Oliver Paulino, who served as the event manager, shared his reaction upon learning Bad Bunny’s selection as the Super Bowl LX halftime performer.
“Bad Bunny is more than a singer. He is also an activist and actor. I am so proud he was selected as headliner for Super Bowl LX,” Paulino said.
The Puerto Rican artist is a three-time Grammy superstar and recipient of other awards, including 12 Latin Grammy Awards and 10 Billboard Music Awards.
Students, staff and administrators attended the event facilitated by the TP/SS Director of Student Life, Kimberly Jones, assisted by Paulino.
DSS Student Support Services Specialist Peter Bermudez especially enjoyed Bad Bunny’s artistry in his videos and his comfort in expressing himself.
“For example, in the video ‘Yo Perreo Sola,’ he plays different roles and is accepting of all people,” Bermudez said. “He’s just phenomenal.”
During the program, Hispanic foods from Qui Qui Restaurant were served.
