Spring 2024 Short Story Contest

Spring+2024+Short+Story+Contest

Montgomery College (MC) students are invited to submit a short story to The Excalibur’s short story contest!

All submissions should be emailed to [email protected] as a MS Word document/ PDF file with the email subject: Short Story Contest.

Submission Deadline: March 31 


Submission Criteria:

  1. Eligibility:

– The contest is open to currently enrolled college students from any academic discipline.

  1. Genre:

– Short story can be from any genre

  1. Length:

– Short stories should be between 1,500 and 5,000 words.

  1. Format:

– Submissions must be in English.

– Use a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman or Arial) with 12-point font size.

– Double-space the text.

– Include page numbers and a title on each page.


  1. Submission Deadline:

– The deadline for submitting entries is [specific date], [year].

6. Submission Method:

– All entries must be emailed to [email protected].

Attach the story as a PDF file with the title clearly mentioned on the document.

  1. Originality:

– Submissions must be original and unpublished works. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified.

– No use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).


  1. Judging Criteria:

– Entries will be judged based on creativity, character development, plot structure, writing style, grammar and overall impact.

– The judging panel will consist of three qualified individuals:

– Dr. Esther Schwartz-McKinzie

-Dr. Michael LeBlanc

-Prof. Weston


  1. Prizes:

1st place:  Rocket reusable smart notebook

2nd place: Desk shelf organizer

3rd place: Mr. Pen sticky note collection

  1. Announcement of Winners:

– Winners will be announced on [specific date] at mcexcalibur.com. The winners will be emailed.

  1. Usage Rights:

– By submitting an entry, participants grant [College/Contest Organizers] the right to publish and promote the winning stories for non-commercial purposes, crediting the authors.
