On Sept. 11, students, staff and others gathered in the ST Atrium on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus for a campus safety fair.
The fair was the first of three sponsored by the Office of Public Safety, Health, and Emergency Management and the Wellness Center during September for National Campus Safety Awareness Month. Safety professionals and health educators connected with participants about wellness and safety steps to follow in case of an emergency.
Maureen Elder, coordinator of safety fairs for all three Montgomery College campuses, said, “We had nine venues at this year’s fair. Four were outside the campus, and five were campus ones. Montgomery County provided emergency management, police, and trauma services.”
The fair also included representatives from the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) and showcased MC’s safety resources, including biology and chemical labs, environmental safety, IT, and public safety departments.
Attendees talked with representatives; played games; received snacks and safety resources, including activity books, pamphlets, health supplies, specialty bags, magnets, and more.
