A talk with Omar Alshogre, turning trauma into a driving force
In an event held in the ST Building, Omar Alshogre detailed his past and current experiences as a Syrian refugee. Students, staff and virtual attendees attended the event in late March this spring 2022 semester. Beginning at noon, the one hour talk, “Turning Trauma Into a Driving Force,” included details of Alshogre’s imprisonment under the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. Mentioned by Alshogre were observational similarities of his experience and situations endured by incarcerated prisoners in the United States. Attendees left the event with knowledge of the ongoing Syrian civil war and its correlation to current events. In addition to a Q&A session, pizza and beverages were served to attendees.
