Students compete in FIFA 23 or Mortal Kombat X at SAB’s video game tournament
The Student Activities Board (SAB) in collaboration with the Student Senate will host a video game tournament in the Cultural Arts Center, Theatre 2, on Feb. 24, from 3-6 p.m.
After the well-attended soccer competition hosted last semester, the organizers wanted students to participate in a “sports-like” activity in a competitive outlet according to Gerald Ndawula, a computer science major and one of the event’s main organizers.
“As we do not have access to athletic facilities that are available all year round, we have decided to pivot towards video games as a means for students to compete,” Ndawula said.
The tournament will be divided into three segments. The first 45 minutes of the tournament will be spent in free play, the following 90 minutes in competitions, and the last 45 minutes in free play, Ndawula said. Free play will be for students who are not participating in the competitions. Free-play games will include Jump Force, Brawlhalla, and NBA 2k 2020. In the competitions, the two games that will be played are FIFA 23 and Mortal Kombat X.
The winners from the two competitions in the video game tournament will each receive a prize. Food will also be provided at the tournament.
