MC students in need can find housing resources on all three campuses through the SHaW Center, college officials said this month.
The resources available include a Home Sharing Program, the Montgomery County ReConnect Drop-in Center, and the monthly Virtual Housing Clinic program.
Katharine Campos, the Social Resource Program Coordinator from the SHaW Center at Rockville, said that the international students can be part of the Home Sharing Program. They need to show eligibility by showing proof of income from the sponsor or family member.
The Home Sharing Program helps students connect with homeowners who are willing to rent their rooms or basement.
Campos affirmed that 10-15 students attend the monthly Housing Clinic Program and get helped with their housing issues, such as: finding affordable housing and rental assistance. It is a brief 30-minutes consultation between 2-5 p.m. every first Wednesday of the month.
Multiple programs are available for rental support to students in need, such as the Rental Assistance Program. There is also a scholarship program that is available for students. It is a foundational program where students can apply for if they have a financial need.
Montgomery County Public Libraries also offer housing counseling to individuals in need of emergency housing with staff from Pathways to Housing DC. Students will have to search on the calendar for the next upcoming event and location within the area. However, the coach can still work with them to find a better solution to their concerns.
Lucas Teir, Social Resource Program Coach, here at the TP/SS Campus, stated that students can directly receive help from the TP/SS Campus so that they do not have to go to the SHaW Center office located at Rockville. The two other campuses have one coach each as well.

A more affordable rental opportunity for students is the Moderately Priced Dwelling Units Program. Students will have to contact the communities that offer MPDU’s rental.
